The South American ‘Mozart:’ life and work of Pedro Ximenez Abrill presentation by Karin Cuéllar Rendón a Bolivian violinist specializing in Historical Performance at the Royal Academy of Music. Wednesday 15 November at 19:30, Senate House.
Pedro Ximenez Abrill Tirado is a Peruvian-Bolivian composer of the end of the 18th century and beginning of the 19th century. He is one of the biggest exponents of the Classical and early Romantic styles in South America, for which he has been compared with W.A. Mozart. Ximenez’ music however, incorporates folkloric elements from Peruvian and Bolivian traditional music into a predominantly European musical aesthetic. His work therefore has become an important source for the study of the music scene in South America in the time of the early Republics.
